• Hi, I’m setting up a website with WordPress Multi-User (MU) 2.8.2

I’m inputting a bunch of test content, and I was very confused at first, because normally when I click “Publish” I expect the page to load for a while, and then the button changes to “Update Page” or “Update Post”.

But when I click “Publish” now, the page loads and the “Publish” button remains. It took me a while, but eventually I noticed that the first time I click “Publish” a permalink is generated underneath the post title. Only the second time I click “Publish” is it actually published.

Is this new functionality? Is it a bug?

If it is intentional, I find it confusing, since it is not very obvious why the post/page was not published at first. I assume that we are being given the chance to edit the permalink, but I think for most of my users, this will just be confusing.

Any clarification or help to circumvent this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Okay, I’ve sort of found out what’s happening.

If I start by writing the Title and then continue on by writing the Body, then while writing the body, the permalink is automatically generated and appears below the Title.

However, if I write the Body first, and then write the Title and while the editing cursor is still in the Title input box, click on Publish, then the permalink will not yet have been generated. So instead of publishing, it generates the permalink.

So I think that this is somewhere between a bug and an unfortunate situation. Anyway, just thought I would share, in case others are wondering.
