Pseudonyms hack (6 posts)

I've been using (b2) and now WordPress for about a year, and since I've started, I've been using real names for my wife and daughter. Now, I'm rethinking that policy. So I'm trying to write a fairly simple hack, modeled on the smilies replacement function- that converts :) into an image. I set up an array of b2pseudonyms in the config file, but looking at the function file I can't see how to "add a filter that displays a psudonym for each existence of the name." I'm sure I'm missing something on how "add_filter" works; could someone enlighten me?

Couldn't you add this to the smilies array itself?

Write an update query to replace "YouDearWife" with "SheWhoMustBeObeyed" in the posts table?

That would work too, Paulzag, I suppose. Alexkingorg- wouldn't I wind up with "img src=/smilies/shewhomustbeobeyed.gif" ?

I misunderstood, I thought you were trying to replace the name with an image.
I think the filtering is done in b2vars.php, poke around in there. :)

Read the whole thread as there are improvements etc further through. It's for b2 but it looks like it'll work for WP.
