    Hello everyone,

My site has a few password-protected pages. When I enter my password and click “Submit”, I end up redirected to wp-login.php?action=postpass and a page that is totally blank except for a single period. (Even when you view source.)

(An example of this is at http://centervilleroad.org/members-area/directory/)

    Here are things that I know/have tried…

    1. This first popped up about 6 weeks ago. The problem resolved on its own then reappeared. This did not correspond to any updates, unless there were server updates I’m not aware of. We use shared hosting from Surpass hosting. All plugins and wordpress is up to date. I’ve also re-installed the current wordpress install.

    2. The pages in question do utilize a modified template page, but the problem occurs with a standard template page, too. I can create a new page, password protect it, and it has the same problem.

    3. I deactivated ALL of my plugins and still had the same problem. I have the same problem on multiple PCs and browsers. (There are 12 plugins: Advanced Recent posts widget, audio player, fast secure contact form, file gallery, google calendar widget, jetpack, scripturizer, sermon browser, stout google calendar, TGN embed everything, WP complete backup, wptouch). We are using the twenty-eleven theme. (I’ve reactivated them since that didn’t seem to solve it!)

    4. I read the post at
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/password-protect-post-not-working
The site was moved from a “testing” directory to the web root about 9 months ago. I tried changing the permalinks, and had no success.

    5. I’ve tried changing themes with no success.

I’m kind of at the end of my rope on this one…any ideas?
    Thanks so very much!
    Matthew

  • I would perform a manual re-install of wp-admin and wp-includes, rename all current theme folders to old-theme_folder_name then upload a fresh unedited copy of the default theme, rename the whole plugins folder to old-plugins.

This will get you a confirmed clean install with default unedited theme and no plugins. Test site and the passwords (make sure to clear browser cache)

happyhiatt, did you find a solution on this problem?
I have exactly the same problem. My problem did also resolve but then reappeared. My installation is also up to date.

I was hoping the plugin “Global Post Password” would solve the problem, but it didn´t (but I´ll get a nice feature when the password problem is solved).

Seacost — thanks for the tip. I tried to hold off on that for a while, because I had already reuploaded a new wordpress install and reinstalled all plugins once. The fact that the problem had disappeared then relapsed made us suspicious of something on our shared host.

Long story short, a friend found a similar problem with someone else who used our host (Surpass, for what it’s worth.) There was an issue with “modsecurity” on their end….we submitted a ticket and asked them if any changes to configuration had been made and described our problem. Within a day or so, they sent us a notice that there was an issue that they fixed. Not any helpful detail, but it was fixed.

    I hope this helps somewhat!
