    Added two sub-sections to a main section, only to have them show up in alphabetical order. I don't want them alphabetical, I want them custom.

    I recommend using the Post Types Order plugin. It's brilliant for this type of thing. Just requires a minor tweak to your query to sort by the post order.

    Then I have to reorder things again, do I have to do that minor tweak once more.

    The Post Types Order plugin is a drag and drop interface once the sort order is set to post order in the template file. So, in the long run, it's easier (for me, anyway, YMMV).
