Product upload issues in custom theme

Hi
I’m trying to help a friend with an issue: when uploading a new product to the store (e-Commerce Version 3.8.9.5) the product will load in sidebar and display only the title instead of being added to the products area.

For reference: http://www.sassygems.com/?page_id=29 is the products page, but when navigating into a specific category such as http://www.sassygems.com/?wpsc_product_category=custom-jewelry, the issue begins.
If I add add one of these sub-categories to the menu, it loads correctly, but makes the sub-category menu disappear.

Any suggestions?
