   Hi,
   I've installed the latest version of WP onto my server, but I'm having problems updating permalink settings.
   After installation, I went to Settings/Permalinks, and chose the format I wanted. I was then told to update my .htaccess file, which I then realised wasn't created. I logged into the server via SSH, and typed "touch .htaccess" to create the file, and then attempted to change the settings again. This time, I was told that the structure had been updated successfully (after performing a chmod 777 on the file), however I'm still getting an HTTP 404 error.
   I've enabled the Rewrite Apache module, but this still didn't help (does it even have to be activated for permalinks to work?)

   Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix the issue?
