When trying to upload images to the media library, I get the following error message:

Warning: copy(/var/www/web286/html/focusingonwildlife/test-platform/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Booted_Racket_tail_06.jpg) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/web286/html/focusingonwildlife/test-platform/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 348
    2596

I have access to the server and have changed the wp-content/uploads/ directory and sub-directories to 775 and 777 - nothing helps.

I have also done a re-install of wordpress-3.2.1 and allowed it to update to wordpress-3.3.1 on-line. Still the same problems.

    Please advise.

How large is the file in MB? Also, remove the underscores and caps from filename if not larger than allowed by host.

I changed the file name to Buff-tailed-Coronet-07, size only 152kb.

Still no upload and the same error message.

    Any other ideas?

    buff-tailed-coronet.jpg doesn't work either.

I get the same error message.

I have a similar problem when trying to import posts via an xml file.

On the forum I've read about ownership issues.

How can I solve an ownership issue?

    Check with your host.

    All sub-directories of wp-content set to 777.

    Problem now solved.

This is not a proper fix for this issue...you have just made the folder writable by anyone which is begging for a hacker to hack you...I suggest you work with your host and change these permissions now.
