• I have installed WordPress 3.4. I have got the theme “Twenty Eleven” installed automatically. These theme is working well.

But, when I’m trying to find new WP themes through “Install Themes” option -it does not work. I’m repeatedly finding the message,”An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

It is to be mentioned that I have installed three WPs in three locations of my server. Theme “Suffusion” is installed in another location, which is working well.

But I can’t understand why I cannot find/install new themes in the newly WP installed locations.

  • see if you find theme using themes on this forum.

You can find themes of your liking here:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

Were you trying to search for the theme with the built in wordpress search? If so I had the same problem trying to search for plugins from the network admin area “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration” as did these people.

I figured maybe my firewall was blocking my connection to wordpress. Sure enough I went into my firewall settings changed the application rule that had been set automatically by the program and what do you know like magic i’m back in business.

Also the RSS feeds on the dashboard were broken as well but not after changing the firewall rules. If you are having both of these problems it is likely you are being blocked from connecting to wordpress.org

    Thanks blackmantis…

My errors on a local install of wordpress were the same. When searching for new themes:
“An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums”

I have Norton Firewall and my application blocking was on for the following MAMP app (MAMP & mysqld need access too)
    – httpd

Searching new themes Ok now. Still have this error on my dashboard though, but that’s not a big deal — for now anyway. This is a testing site:
