    Currently revamping a friend's website. I'm using a theme I bought from Elegant Themes a while ago. Not a member anymore so the help forum is disabled...

    http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/modest/

    Question is, trying to get rid of the footer, it's a basic site and don't really need it. I can delete all the text from the footer.php and that get rids of all the text which is good. But it then messes up the navigation at the top, the drop down menus disappear. Any help appreciated. Testing the site offline so can't provide a link so here's the code.

    If you just want to remove the "Powered by" and "Designed by" links you can simply comment the following code:

    <p id="copyright"><?php esc_html_e('Designed by','Modest'); ?> Elegant WordPress Themes | <?php esc_html_e('Powered by', 'Modest'); ?> WordPress</p>

    If you want to remove the whole footer you have to find the exact <div> which visualizes the content and comment/remove it. Right now you have 6 div tags:

    </div> <!-- end #footer-bottom -->
    </div> <!-- end .container -->
    </div> <!-- end #footer-top -->
    </div> <!-- end .left-shadow -->
    </div> <!-- end .right-shadow -->
    </div> <!-- end #footer -->

    If you remove them all you may actually delete other HTML blocks. Thus, don't remove all of the code. You can use Firebug to inspect the page and find the exact <div>.

    Yep, that seemed to work! Took out the <div id='footer' and did the trick,

    <div id="footer">
    	<div class="right-shadow">
    		<div class="left-shadow">
    			<div id="footer-top">
    				<div class="container">
    					<div id="footer-widgets" class="clearfix">
    						<?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar('Footer') ) : ?>
    						<?php endif; ?>
    					</div> <!-- end #footer-widgets -->

    					<div id="footer-bottom" class="clearfix">
    						<?php $menuClass = 'bottom-nav';
    						$footerNav = '';

    						if (function_exists('wp_nav_menu')) $footerNav = wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'footer-menu', 'container' => '', 'fallback_cb' => '', 'menu_class' => $menuClass, 'echo' => false, 'depth' => '1' ) );
    						if ($footerNav == '') show_page_menu($menuClass);
    						else echo($footerNav); ?>

    						<p id="copyright"><?php esc_html_e('Designed by','Modest'); ?> <a href="http://www.elegantthemes.com">Elegant WordPress Themes</a> | <?php esc_html_e('Powered by', 'Modest'); ?> <a href="http://www.wordpress.org">WordPress</a></p>
    					</div> <!-- end #footer-bottom -->
    				</div> <!-- end .container -->
    			</div> <!-- end #footer-top -->
    		</div> <!-- end .left-shadow -->
    	</div> <!-- end .right-shadow -->
    </div> <!-- end #footer -->
