Problems installing wordpress via Microsoft Web Platform INstaller

Dear Forum,

Apologises if this is a stupid question but as you can see I’m very new to wordpress and I’m trying to get over the first hurdle by getting it installed onto my windows 7 PC using the Microsoft Windows platform installer, which seems to be the recommended way for a Windows 7.

It keeps failing with an error “Web Platform Installer has stopped working”. This just appears to be when installing the WordPress part of the installation. The version of the Installer is version 3. There are no other errors reported.

Does anyone have any ideas to get around this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
