• Firstly, I’m a complete newbie to wordpress, please speak very slowly and simply to me so that I can understand!

I have two weird issues –

I should mention, my hosting company kindly helped me to ‘lock’ my site while I work on it, by creating a text file to only allow my IP address to access the site. This could possibly be the cause of my problem, I’m not sure…..

First problem – I uploaded a PDF newsletter to a post. When I checked the site to make sure the download worked ok (I was still logged in as admin), the link to the PDF worked but was EXTREMELY slow to download. Any advice on how to speed this up? The PDF was only 4 pages long so not a big document.

Second problem – later on, I logged out of the admin area and went back on the site to check how everything looked and the link to the PDF newsletter was black rather than blue (ie: not hyperlinked) and you can’t click on it. Could this be some weird setting that requires users to be logged in to view media??

Update: I just checked again and the problems seem to have resolved themselves. The download link is functioning when logged out of admin and the PDF loaded very quickly.

I’m going to leave this post up however because I am curious if anybody knows what causes file downloads from posts to be fast / slow and if there is any way (plugins etc) that I can make the speed more consistent?
