• I’m currently having a problem with sticky posts (or featured) using theme Twenty Fourteen. If I add a sticky post, instead of placing it on top of the other posts, it seems to place it into the main menu and expand the menu to half of the screen.

I tried it in Twenty Thirteen and Twenty Twelve and it works perfect. That makes me inclined to think part of the problem is Twenty Fourteen’s secondary menu, but I wouldn’t bet my paycheck on it. I also tried this on another install (different machine, 3.8 vs 3.8.1) with the same exact results. Firefox vs IE 10 & 11 makes no difference. I disabled Fourteen Colors but it didn’t help. That’s the only plugin I’m using. I tried a bunch of searches and keep coming up empty.

Does anybody have any ideas? I’m going crazy. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

I’m having exactly the same problem – see attached screenshot. The post ‘DYNNARGH DHIS (WELCOME)’ should appear at the top of the white area, not in the black heading area and there should be a whole paragraph of text under the heading.

It’s a brand new site with a brand new install of WordPress 3.8.1 – 2 plugins – deactivated. Different browsers all display the same problem.

    Thanks for any help.

davideno….. Did you have any luck figuring out a solution? The best I could come up with is to constantly change the published date. For instance, after I add a regular post, I go back to the post I’d like to be at the top and re-publish it with a later date/time.

Part of the problem with coming up with a solution is that it’s not a bug, but rather a feature. Twenty Fourteen seems to treat sticky posts and featured content as the same. Here’s a post of somebody with the same problem. Disabling Featured Content If you go to his website, you can see that it actually looks good when it’s combined with an image.

It just stinks for me because I’m not interested in combining it with an image and making it look fancy. I just want to be able to quickly add a sticky post to the top of the page for a few days with no extras. Ideally, it’d be great if the featured content and sticky posts weren’t married.

Please let me know if you come up with some type of work around. I love the theme and it’s probably the only thing I dislike about it. I also have other users updating it the site so it makes my work around far from perfect. Good luck.

Exact same problem as seen on screenshot 1.
Cant sticky posts on twenty fourteen it gets bugged.

I am now closing this 4 month old topic as it references an older version of WordPress and the theme.
