Problem with Plugin’s

Ok, I’ve downloaded an assortment of plugins that I would like to use. I have unzipped the files, and uploaded them with my FTP client to the folder that says wp-content, subfolder plugins, all 10 of my plugins are now in that file, but they are not in the wordpress admin dashboad (where the plugins should be – where the Akismet is). Why can’t I see them there so I can active them??
