Problem with paging

Hi all,
how can I access the next set of posts directly from the start page? I.e. if I have 5 posts a day and the blog set to display 4 posts (paged), it doesn’t render next/previous links. Since I can only choose another date from the calendar I would never see that fifth post of mine… any suggestions? Best regards,
