Problem with domains - PLEASE HELP ! (9 posts)

    Hello everyone.

Well, this is my 1st post here, and I really do need your help.

I have hostgator hosting account, and one domain name. I successfully installed wordpress via Fantastico script. Everything is fine.

But now, I bought a new domain name. I added the domain to my hostgator hosting account via the "Addon Domain" function in the Cpanel.

Now, when I want to install wordpress on my new domain name, it doesn't install on it, it kinda creates a subdomain of my 1st domain. I want it to be http://www.domainnr1.com and http://www.domainnr2.com , but now they're like both together. It's like http://www.domainnr1.com/domainnr2 like an subdirectory or suddomain.

Can anyone give me some information, how to install wordpress, so it could be like one independent domain ?

On the FTP server it looks like, root/publichtml(this is where my 1st domain files are at)/domainnr2(it is kinda a subdir, I just don't get it).

    Please help,

    Chris.

This is not a WP question, but a question for your host.

    *Some People* *ggrrr*
    That wasn't helpfull Gangleri -
Some of us ARE the host and we use WP as a tool.

Trenz: In mine I briefly had a similar situation with upgrading. I suddenly had a version of my domain under /public_html plus a version under /domains, with both the /public_html and /domains folders in the same home directory.

I ended up deleting the /public_html folder in that directory because it came up, as stated above, under /domains/ourblog.com/public_html complete with the usual directories containing wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes.

Perhaps if you can create your new domain (somehow) under /domains, such as /domains/ourfirstblog.com and /domains/oursecondblog.com , that would do it. I actually would have expected that to happen during what you said you did but /domains did not even appear in my original version of WP and it may not have been in yours.

I just noticed that it was there at some point and the other day I realised it was essentially a duplicate of my existing wp-folders/files. I deleted the directory /public_html which was parallel with /domains and found that left the version under /domains/ourblog.com/public_html intact.

Hope my words and ideas don't send you down a wrong path.

Perhaps Gangleri, an obvious wiz, can now see your problem at OUR level of expertise.

I think my question is similar to Trenz and I haven't need to post before either, so I apologize in advance if I am not suppose to sidetrack from the previous question.

I have v2.5 installed on okhoa.org the main domain. I created an add on domain, a second blog, resulting in digitalseasonsoflife.okhoa.org.
I recently pointed my domain name of digitalseasonsoflife.com towards the lunarpages servers of okhoa.org. I want to be able to type in: digitalseasonsoflife.com.... and it take you to digitalseasonsoflife.okhoa.org..... however... the process stops at okhoa.org. I have also checked the database... everything appears ok.

I have contacted my webhost and this is their response:
"When checking your addon domain folder, it appears the addon domain will properly function: http://digitalseasonsoflife.com/LPphpInfo.php This file is placed into the /public_html/digitalseasonsoflife, and it appears to properly load. This indicates this redirection is being caused by a midconfiguration in your WordPress installation. Here is a link to more information on updating your WordPress URL: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL It may be possible that the installation in the /public_html folder is effecting the operation of the addon domain WordPress installation. We are limited on the amount of support we can provide with 3rd party scripts. The creators of the script would be better able to assist you with getting the script properly configured to allow the subdirectory method to properly function. I would recommend using the addon domain as the URL in the meantime."

I have went into phpmyadmin... and looked at the above url... and do not see anything wrong with the url. What am I missing? Any ideas on what to check or change? Thanks in advance for your time.

    Sorry... here's a slight update:

I see my links do no work regarding the digital seasons of life. I should have a different order: okhoa.org/digitalseasonsoflife/
