[resolved] Problem with domain install (5 posts)

I am using 1and1.com hosting with multiple domains using a few different Content Management Systems (CMS).

Therefore, I normally entitle each domain name with a directory.

    /.
    /mydomain1
    /mydomain2
    /mydomain3

This way I can install the CMS in each directory for multiple domain names. But it seems I have a problem with this.

I installed wordpress into say /domain1 and now the domain has to point at http://www.domain1.com/domain1 to get to the wordpress site. I tried pointing the domain to that directory to shorten the url, but then all of the graphics disappear and stuff and it wont let me redo the database without removing everything.

    What should I do?
    Can anyone help me?
Who else is using 1and1.com hosting?

Thanks ahead of time for any positive feedback that can help me out here.

You will have to write proper re-write rules in order to point your add-on domain to wordpress blog. You can easily search the code from Google. Make sure you need to place the code in .htaccess file and also rewriteengine should be on in your hosting server.

Regarding MySQL database backup you need to ask your hosting provider for the possible backup and restoration.

I would like to keep all my files for my website in a directory, but have the domain point to work from the home directory.

To better explain, my current website address is http://www.xboxlivegameroom.com/xboxlivegameroom and I would like it read as http://www.xboxlivegameroom.com only.

    Is this possible? And how?

    Hi all,

    Still need some help here.

I want to have multiple installations of wordpress on my host. Each one gets its own domain. This means that example1.com would link to the folder mydomain.com/example1 and that example2.com would link to mydomain.com/example2.

Unfortunately I can not get the example1.com to link to mydomain.com/example1 and have to type in the full url of mydomain.com/example1 to get it to work and that is not what I want.

I'm new at this and at a loss. Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem? I'd be very grateful.

Never mind. I managed to figure it out myself.

I completely deleted the blog(s) in question and re-setup the databases for a clean installation and it worked just fine.
