I think I’ve run into a problem with your excellent plugin. I’m using WP-o-Matic to generate auto posts from RSS feeds. QFI doesn’t appear to be working with these post, probably bececause they are injected to the database directly. When I run a mass-update on the posts to give them a featured imaged, it works, but not at the time of creation. Is there any way to get around this?

Hi Wijksel, I think the sub menu page “Preset Featured Images” of QFI is for you. On that page you can define rules to let auto-set featured images for future posts.

Thanks, I know, I tried that. It works for posts that I enter manually, but it doesn’t “fire” on auto generated posts. I have the rule set to a specific category and WP-o-Matic is putting these auto posts in that same category, so the rule does match.

I have just change two lines in the code of QFI. With that it should be possible to get automatic inserted posts with the desired featured images.

The changes are harmless, but make auto-set for new posts possible. Would you do me a favour and please test it on your server? I would tell you a download link to a zip file. You would unpack it and save it via FTP on your server.

Hello wijksel, would it possible for you to test the script?

A mail is on the way to you.

    Hello,

I am also using AutoBlogged from which the post’s first image is external link. Will this new code you mentioned above work to fetch the that first image to be featured?

The plugin does not fetch external images, only already imported into the library.

The next version will work with auto-blogging plugins.

The currently new version 8.2 works with auto-blogging plugins (if the plugins use the WP standard function to insert new posts)

So the new version will first collect the first image into media library then auto set it as the featured image? Can it just set the image from that first external link to be the featured image without downloading to the media library first?

Currently I am using this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/external-featured-image/
to manually set my feature image.

Till now the plugin works only with images you have imported into the media library. The new version takes the first image only if it is found in the library. External images are not considered.

But it is possible to implement your desired function in a future version of the plugin. Please be patient, it will take some weeks for me due to other duties. Thank you for the helpful link.
