When I try to upload a PNG to the media library, I get the following errors, repeated five times:

Warning: imagecreatefromstring() [function.imagecreatefromstring]: Passed data is not in 'PNG' format in /data/18/0/114/52/929541/user/950766/htdocs/WWW/wp-includes/media.php on line 253

Warning: imagecreatefromstring() [function.imagecreatefromstring]: Couldn't create GD Image Stream out of Data in /data/18/0/114/52/929541/user/950766/htdocs/WWW/wp-includes/media.php on line 253

The image uploads, but I have to refresh the library after.

    This isn't happening with JPGs.

    Any thoughts?

Try re-saving your png file in a graphics application first.

That thought had occurred to me too, as I upgraded from Photoshop Elements to Photoshop CS 5 at about the same time I installed WP3 extended and wondered if that might be the problem. But when I went back to the tried and true elements I got the same result. It's no big deal because JPG works fine and I can use that for now.

  4. I've been able to upload pngs just fine (did it yesterday and the day before).

That error, however, I think is GD Library and not WordPress. That is, I bet you'd get it on any app, not just WP. Have you tried to re-upload a PNG you've uploaded before?

Or better, when was the last time you uploaded a PNG file?

Also check your error log for weirdness.

RC3 has cleared up this problem. Solved!

I'm still getting this error myself..... don't get it all the time, just sometimes.

Maybe WP should use ImageMagick instead of GD!? ;)

  7. WordPress just uses what you have on your server. If you don't wanna use ImageMagick, get rid of it :)

It doesn't use ImageMagick... that's what I'm saying. If GD has problems with PNG's, then maybe WP should use ImageMagick instead.

  9. Same thing, vice versa ;) Turn on GD on your server and WordPress (should) default to imagemagick. Sorry, brain fart, but it's the same idea, same idea in the end.

You mean turn OFF GD & it should default to ImageMagick? :p

  11. Yeesh. I need more coffee. But yes.

LOL.... ok. But it would be good if WP allowed you to select which you would like to use rather than having to turn it off, as you may want to use GD elsewhere.

But alas..... this isn't a huge problem anyway, just a thought. :)
