    Hi there

First time using WordPress so of course problems :-)

I'm trying to re-create a wordpress 2.5.1 site locally on my home machine so I can test upgrades, and other site changes before commiting to the live site.

I've got a copy of the file system & DB from the host, no problems. I've adjusted the wp-config.php file with the connection data yet still no response from WAMP ? No error message it just times out ? For some reason it also tries to connect to http://www.localhost.com ?

I updated the siteurl & home URL within the database to http://localhost/ - I'm running apache on port 8888 which is fine for my Joomla installs - could that effect this wordpress set up ?

BTW - I have a couple of Joomla installs working fine using my WAMP setup and can move these back and fwd between my hosting account & my local machine without issue, so I've used phpmyadmin a fair bit and can work my way around php files.

Just to rule out as much as possible I can get a new 2.7.1 install running fine, so it must be something in the config file or the DB ?

    Any suggestions ?

    Cheers

Sorry, very basic question. If you type localhost into a web browser window do you connect to your WAMP server?

Have you tried WP's built-in export and import functions-- under 'Tools' in 2.7 though I'm not sure about 2.5? You should be able to copy your php to the local server, then have WP install its databases like normal (You'll have to drop the broken database you created). Export from the live blog then import that to the local copy.
