Problem associating WordPress account with Facebook

    This is a well worn topic but I cannot find the answer to my problem, I am hoping somebody can help.

    I am using wordpress 3.9.1 and facebook plugin 1.5.5.

    I am trying to complete the “Social Publisher Settings” for the facebook plugin but stuck on step 3, linking my wordpress account to my facebook account.

    On my profile page I have 2 links to link the accounts:
    “Associate my WordPress account with my Facebook account”
    “Associate my WordPress account with my Facebook account and allow new posts to my Facebook Timeline”

    I select the second and I get the dialog to allow the permissions. This all works and I can see the application and publish permission under the apps section in facebook.

    The problem is that as far as the wordpress plugin is concerned my accounts are not linked. My WordPress profile page still shows the links to initiate account linking and the “Social Publisher Settings” does no show a tick next to step 3 so I cannot proceed.

    Having done more searching and reading it appears the plugin in not compatible with version 2.0 apps. Marking this as resolved, I will continue using Publicize for now.
