• I have been running a site on 3.6.1, with shoestrap theme and various plugins on a testing server during development, I moved it over to our live server today and everything is working exactly as it should be except the password protected pages, when you enter the password it just refreshes the page, it doesn’t make any difference if you are logged in or not you are just not able to get onto the page at all.

I know the standard response is to change the theme and deactivate plugins but since it’s working perfectly on our other server I don’t see how this could be causing it.

I’m just not sure what would effect JUST that one part of the install on the server side, since logins are working, forms are fine, permalinks are working as they should. I’ve checked the htaccess and it all seems fine, there isn’t anything in particular I can see that would cause this to happen. I have checked for filters being called on ‘the_password_form’, even though I assume if this was the issue it wouldn’t have worked on the testing site.

Any ideas on what else could affect this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

I disabled all plugins, removed any that weren’t 100% necessary completely off the server and changed to Twenty Thirteen and it’s still just refreshing.

We run Varnish on our servers so have a feeling that may be causing the issue.

    Thanks,
    Danny

It could well be. Any chance of deactivating it to confirm whether it is the cause?

You’re probably right. Excluding that page from being cached by Varnish may fix this issue. However, I still doubt if it would work, because you said…

it doesn’t make any difference if you are logged in or not you are just not able to get onto the page at all.

Varnish shouldn’t cache anything for logged-in users. You could probably post your Varnish configuration to check if everything is okay in it.
