Private Comments (11 posts)

I would love to have a feature that would hide all the comments. People could still leave comments, but no one could read them on the comments pop-up or if no pop-up, on the page. They would be emailed to the owner of the blog. It should be easy to turn on and off as well, in case you wanted to show all the comments for a certain entry or turn them on for a while or turn them off on all the entries.

This is a bit more esoteric, is there anyone else who would like this? It seems that if you want "private" comments you could just put an email link up.

I did this recently with b2, I just made the comment form a form and there is a comment count on the blog, but no one can read the comments.
I will be able to do this with Word Press as well? I hope so! :)

You will be able to do the exact same thing with WordPress.

    Well, I don´t know. That´s a very odd "feature".
A function for turning off the commtents for specific posts.
Like, with a checkbox: allow comments. When you´re writing a post.

Well eventually you'll be able to enable or disable comments on a per-post basis, and also close an entry to new comments if you want.

How about threaded comments? That would be cool for larger wordpress communities wouldn't it?

I like the idea of being able to turn off the comments, thank you for including this! I have incorporated the private entries hack that I read on the b2 boards, but, the comments are still viewable.
Any plans for making comments passworded along with the private entries?
I guess I could turn them off if I wanted to, for the private entries.

Just thought I'd mention that there's a private comments hack for b2 newly up over at:
    http://mikepark.home.comcast.net/privatecomments.txt
The comments are not ALL private; the commenter is able to choose 'private comment' as an option when entering one. I've been noodling around with it a bit this afternoon, but have been unable to get it to work thus far....comments are still appearing. I'll continue to mess around with the code, but if anyone better than me at PHP/mySQL (I'm sure that would include nearly everyone :)), please let us know how it works out!

One of the developers recently checked in code to hide comments for private posts. If it isn't in the current release (the beta release) , it should be in the next one. I don't know if that is sufficient for you or not since I haven't looked at the hack you referenced. :)

so on a private post, the comments are also password protected, allowing only those with the password to read the comments? for some entries, i would rather not turn the comments off completely, but only keep them protected from the rest of the world.
