I’m looking for a way to make one category private. Meaning, that if you’re not logged in, then public won’t see any event belonging to the private category. I see the capabilities permissioning doesn’t include public (anonymous “not logged in”) as an option.

For a business, it would be great to create meeting events on the calendar – but not show them to the public. So in that case, we would post all meeting events under a private category.

    Possible?

  • It’s not possible out-of-the-box but the workaround would be to use shortcodes to display event lists and calendars along with the category attribute to hide that category.

    Something like this:

    [events_list category=-5]

I’ve found a better work around, I believe. When creating a new event, before publishing it, I set it to private rather than public. The other option woudl be to password protect the event. I sure would prefer a category level permission.

It’s possible there’s another plugin around that would let you add those kind of restrictions to category viewing. Might be worth a look.

    Hi welswebmaster.

I wanted the same feature: to have private events and I found an easy solution: you should give the WordPress plugin “User Access Manager” a try. I was able to implement that.

With that you can create and define user groups and restrict access of pages and posts (like events) to only thos groups.

    Kind regards!
