• i’ve been looking at how to use the Private Post feature of WP 1.2.
all i want to do i make a class of posts where the authors can see, read and comment on them, but a non author/ non logged in visitor may not see them.
i kinda thought that this was what the “Private” option was in the post.php.
but everything i have posted as “private” can be viewed by all.
and i see no options to change that anywhere.
did a search for private, and private posts, read it all and didn’t find an answer to this.
what is it that i am missing?

  • That’s odd. I’ve clicked one of my posts as “private” in the admin section and even I am not able to see it on my index page.

    heh…
i must really be doing something wrong…
i chacked it out and for whatever reason they changed from “private” to regular upon publish. makes sense actually.
but then how does one create an “admin only” type of section?
i’ve tried creating a new category, and preventing the index from outputting that category. but the posts still appear in the categories and in the archives.
so how would a WP user go about creating a more private area?

Well, I checked again on my testblog. I selected the radio button “Private” AND clicked after that on “Publish” but it does not show up anymore.

    alpha,
yes, that was the forst thing i tried. but it’s a kind of “exclusive” approach.
i think i’m going to remove my “previous” and “next” tags from the archive pages, and then just use a duplicate (and renamed) index.php for the alternate, not for first impressions entries.
    not a perfect solution.
but better than general readers knowing about posts they can not access.
    thanks.
