• I am trying to build a site in record time – Something I thought I could do with WP.

But two of the themes I have used that CLAIM to have “custom Header” do not have a Header tab under Appearance. And yet it states “Features easily customizable rotating header images”.

Custom header as far as I am concerned means you DON’T have to mess with code.

So how do I change the header image without messing with code?

And how are people allowed to get away with stating custom header without providing a Header page?

The other culprit was iStudio theme.

    thanks

  • Some older themes will have an area in the theme admin options for choosing custom headers.

It takes just about 60 seconds to upload and begin using your own prepared header image(s) in either of those themes.

Neither of these themes are “culprits” just because you can’t be bothered by learning how they work, or because they don’t conform to your personal definitions of easy.

    – see the “headers” directory in the primepress theme,

    – see the “showpic” directory in the iStudio theme.

I’m sure what to do will be intuitive from there. There’s no messing with code required.

    Thanks for your reply.

So would that be “PrimePress Options” under Appearance? If so it is not in there. I can’t find another theme Admin area anywhere.

    Clayton, thanks for your reply.

Please can you tell me where Headers directory is in PrimePress and Showpic in iStudio.

Sorry, but I have clicked on everything in the WordPress Admin area, and can’t find them. Believe me it is not a case of “Can’t be bothered”.

All I can see is Appearance > (no header page there).

There is a PrimePress options page, but no Header settings in there either.

and Editor > files = code.

Sorry, but “directories” makes me think of FTP/cpanel. Is that what you mean?

How do I get to Directories from within WordPress please?

    thanks

That’s exactly what mean. Use your ftp client or the file manager in your hosts control panel. Make sure you check the size of the existing header images, and size your new header images exactly the same before replacing the originals.

Thank you, but that’s not within WordPress, so they’re cheeky to say custom header. I thought the point of WP was to put sites up fast. I could change any header that way, but it would take me closer to 10 minutes, not 60 seconds.

I found this page with a list of Custom Header themes:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/

But it’s a list only; no previews. And when I check them, half of them don’t exist!

And doing a search for custom header shows up tons of ones that do not have the Header page

So where can I suggest to WordPress to provide a way of viewing all themes with Custom Headers from within WP dashboard, that let you upload a pic in Appearance > Header please?

    thanks

so they’re cheeky to say custom header.

Not necessarily. The Custom Header menu option is relatively new. Older themes provided customisation by using CSS to apply header images. Since you can customise your theme’s CSS, it follows that you can customise your header. Nice, pointy-clicky, stuff is another thing entirely. 🙂

As for viewing all themes with Custom Headers, try filtering on the custom-header tag.

Thanks but that’s what I have been doing. They brought up PrimePress et al. I guess it’s because the developers are putting “custom header” in their spiel.

yeah but essential for lesdyxics like me. You guys sound very experienced and happy with code, css and directories. I can do it, but only when something dreadful happens like when my site disappears!

    I went with Coraline anyway.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Damn!! You kids and your darned “pointy – clicky”! What shall we ever do with you?

    Coraline… excellent choice!

Just a recommendation from a worn out old boot like myself; Cue up a little Grateful Dead (or whatever works for you), grab a little bit of your favorite “whatever” for inspiration, ( smilin’ a little as I let it go, wink, wink, nudge, nudge… ) and let yourself create a little…

    Best wishes to you. 🙂

Thank you for your forgiveness Clayton! Yeah I’m pathetic I know. Nice to be called a kid at 43 (and three quarters 😉 And The Dead will do nicely.
    Take care.

guys you don’t need any widget to change the image header! Just go in the folder primepress/header via ftp, erase the pics you don’t want and upload the ones you want! they will automatically appear…the measures are 920×145. You can crop any image you need with this plug-in for firefox! Incredibly easy! Check my website if you want.
Very nice theme by the way…clean and bugs-free!

well … rotating, custom or not my header isn’t displayed.
can anybody tell me if it happens to you also?

    solved with upgrade to 3.1.4!
    Thanks, great!
