[resolved] Primary Site Backend not accessible (21 posts)

Hi ,this is a problem I have spent some time trying to resolve so I am posting as a last resort.

I have seven sites that are all sub-domains of the Primary site

    http://www.stocastica.com/

    e.g. http://www.stocastica.com/themockery

    or http://www.stocastica.com/cosmos

I can access all the the sub-domains Backend Admin functions successfully but when I try to access the Primary site I get.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home4/stocast1/public_html/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 1059

Via any of the sub-domains I can get to Super Admin and I can access the Edit function for the Primary site but I cannot access the Backend or View from Super Admin.

In Super Admin I note that the Primary site ,which is ID has no path data ,just the backstroke /

I note from searching that the error I got can be associated with Plug-ins

I have shut down all my plug-ins and still have the same problem.

On reviewing the Edit page for the primary site I have noticed that a theme 'Thesis' that I trialled and deleted still has some residual data present

    Thesis Header
    Thesis Options
    Thesis Design Options

....all as serial data. Could his be part of the problem?

I am thinking about backing up my data on the server and deleting the primary site to see if that clears the problem or a complete ground up reinstall.

Any help appreciated greatly as I have put several weeks of work into the sites and would hate to have to rebuild it all.

    Thanks for reading so far

In Super Admin I note that the Primary site ,which is ID has no path data ,just the backstroke /

    This is normal.

If you delete the primary site, you'll muck up the *entire install*. It kind of has to be there...

If it's just the main site, then it's either a plugin or it's the theme you have enabled. the rest of the site works, so the WP code itself is fine.

Also, if you have anything in the mu-plugin folder - you need to disable that when you're disabling plugins as well.

First many thanks for cleaning up my multiple post! Sorry for being dumb but I can't see a way to delete them myself

I went straight to WP3 and did not WP mu so do not have a mu -plugin folder that I can see.
I have disabled all plugins and have the same problem with or without plugins running.
I set the Primary site theme to twenty ten as default in the Edit page
but I still have the error thats why I am stumped.

Very cool of you to respond so quickly!

In the Edit menu for the main site, you have to set the template and stylesheet values both the twentyten.

    Hi Andrea, still no joy

I checked Edit and both template and style are set to twenty ten already so it does not seem to be themes.

I turned off all plug-ins vis the stocastica.com/wp-admin page and then tried the primary site from a new web page. Still get the same error.

I could live with it except that I need to run Buddypress on one site and it seems to reference the primary site in some way and this is triggering the same error. Just to stress probably needlesly Buddy press is deactivated and I still have the problem.

I have not posted to the Buddypress site yet as it seems to be a problem without BP activated.

    Real puzzling me.

Did you type in twentyten all with no spaces? It's the theme foldername that needs to go here.

Did you add any extra edits to the config file, such as to make different buddypress functionality?

I typed in twentyten. Not tweny ten
No edits to the config file so far.

  8. Try a repair on your database?

Hi, I have used the PHPAdmin tool provided by my ISP to select all the tables in the database and run repair.

No change I'm afraid ipstenu but thank you for the suggestion.

  11. It was a stab in the dark :(

Try renaming the plugins folder AND the mu-plugins folder to *-old -- Maybe it's still calling something, somewhere?

    Hi Andrea_r and ipstenu

I have looked at the error logs and can report that apart from a mass of spam that I will sort with BlueHost the PHP error logs show the following

( I have removed duplications to make it easier to read)

[25-Oct-2010 02:52:41] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home4/stocast1/public_html/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 1059

which is obviously the report to the webpage

[25-Oct-2010 11:29:13] WordPress database error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1 for query SELECT * FROM wp_13_wtr_attending WHERE rsvp_event_id = 4 AND rsvp_user= made by require, require_once, do_action, call_user_func_array, wt_render_single_page, WT_Renderer->single, include, include, WT_RSVP->get_users_by_event

    it them reverts to

[25-Oct-2010 16:23:41] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home4/stocast1/public_html/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 1059

Which suggests to me ( but I know nothing!) that there is SQL call problem within the BuddyPress plug-in.

If you agree let me know and I'll post on the BP site and quit bugging you.

Thank you again for reading so far!

Have you got an RSVP or Events plugin? Cuz that's what that error is from.

If BuddyPress is disabled and you get this error... it's not BuddyPress. (and BP trac is not the place to put it either . they have a support forum)

Disable *all* your plugins. Even any you might have in mu-plugins.

    OK

Sorry for the goof on trac
    Don't want to upset anyone

I was not aware I had any mu plug-Ins as I never used WP MU.just WP 3 so I am going to disable every plugin I can find

    I'll report back

    Tnx

Well, you had to actually create the folder to use it - people forget they do. If it's not there, fine.

TADA! And you are a genius, many thanks.

I have some work to do to understand why Wordtour broke the functionality and I will report it to them to help them improve their plug-in but I now have a working BP.
You were right,I was making assumptions about BP when it was elsewhere.
    Sorry to misdirect.

Big big thanks for the patience and the help!
