   My website uses the Dodo theme but I think a former colleague may have made some customisations to it.

   An update is now available which I would like to install but would like to test it first - just in case the customisations are lost in the process. If I manually download and install the update (and give the relevant folder a slightly different name) will I then be able to see it in WP as an additional theme which I can preview?

   Also, if I then apply the new theme, should I then be able to return to the original theme version if necessary?

   Or is there a better way of testing an updated theme and rolling back if necessary?

   if you take the newly downloaded theme, and locally (on your computer) change the name of the folder, and the name of the theme in the style.css, it will be a different theme.

   You would be able to install it, and switch back and forth between the two

   Make sure you have a backup copy of your current theme as well, just to be safe
