Press area (members area)

Hi everyone.

I want to make a press area within a wordpress site, a page where its possible to:

a) log in
b) fulfill a form to become a member (name, email, password + a text field)

New users must be approved by the site admin before gaining access to the press area.

The content available when one’s logged in mustn’t be accessible for people that isn’t logged in.

If it’s possible to use the wordpress user system then that’s a possibility since I’m not using it for anything else. But it’s my impression that it doesn’t allow admin approval of signups, right?

Ideas for plugins etc. will be appreciated. The site is build on the Carrington Business frame.
