[resolved] Prefer to use Paypal for shipping calculation (9 posts)

    Hello,

I'm using wp e-commerce and have a number items for sale -- I had previously set up shipping options at Paypal and I like the way they work.

Now however, with WP E-Commerce, when I go to check out (with shipping turned off in the plugin) when I get to paypal, it does not add the shipping costs.

If I try it with a simple paypal button created within Paypal, it works perfectly, but I would like to retain the cart features of of WP E-Commerce but have the shipping applied at Paypal.

There is no shipping option within WP E-Commerce (flat, weight or table) that will handle the shipping in the way that I'd like, so I really need a patch or something to tell the plugin to send the items as items that should have shipping applied once they arrive at paypal.

    Thanks, Brad

Can you elaborate on how you'd like shipping handled?

Yes, I would like to have customers come to the site, add items to cart, visit cart, click checkout, go to paypal, choose shipping options at paypal, pay and then return to the site.

    Thanks for any help.

Hmm - that's not a workflow I envision being handled in the core plugin (doesn't seem like the most common use case) - but it could be added as a custom plugin I suppose.

Well, I would think that there would be some way to tell WP ECommerce to not do shipping but don't inform paypal to not do shipping.... Like a simple hack that changes the info that gets passed to paypal. Given that so many people use paypal to print their shipping labels and because this works rather well, it could be an option.

I was surprised it couldn't be made to work this way -- a lot of simpler carts do this. Just a thought.

I suppose I'm not familiar with how you would actually calculate a shipping quote at PayPal? That's not a feature I've ever seen or used with PayPal (Which is not to say it doesn't exist, I've just never used it.)

Ah, I think I see what you mean - PayPal allows you to set up sales tax and weight/flat rate shipping. Still not sure why you wouldn't use WPeC for it - but you could build a plugin that would do this (You'd filter the wpsc_paypal_standard_post_data array)

You can create various options, tie directly to usps and ups or not, and calculate all sorts of flat rate/weight rate, number of items, etc. So, it's very versatile -- it would be nice to be able to use a robust cart like wpec, yet not lose all that paypal functionality.

I wasn't able to figure out how to offer multiple shipping options that were $X amount for first item and $Y amount for each additional item on both a rush normal order basis. Any ideas?

Also, I prefer the idea of not filling in any cart info on the site, and just doing that sort of thing in one place, preferably at Paypal.
