Potential problems using mod_rewrite/Pretty Permalinks?

    I know there have been many situations with Permalink structures discussed in the forums heretofore, but I would really like a clear answer all in one place, and I think others would find it helpful as well.

    Are there ways in which Pretty Permalinks can adversely affect the normal operations of the average WP install?

    I have been wanting to enable this re-writing on my site, but I have been wondering about possible side-effects. I wouldn’t want something that changed my URLs, but then caused other problems later (so that if I changed it back, any incoming links to my site would be broken).

    Am I worried about nothing? Or are there steps that I can take to prevent errors?
