Problem summary: Single post pages for any post which has a postid of 1000 or above shows a 404 Error page on WP 2.5.1. The post itself shows without any problem on category or main index pages.

    Explanation:

    Hi everyone.

Today, after crossing the 1000 number post id for the newest post, clicking on any new post that has a postid of 1000 or more results in a 404 Error page. The post is visible without any problem on the home page or the category page, but going into the single post link of such a post results in the 404 error page.

Example: here is a post with a post id of 998 which shows properly on its single post page. Here is a post with post id of 1000 which shows a 404 error. Both posts, however, show properly on their respective category page.

Things I've tried to solve this:

1 : I have tried posting new posts in different categories, with or without titles, and they still run into the same problem.
2 : I tried disabling all plugins and the problem still exists.
3 : I changed themes to the default and classic theme and the problem still exists.
4 : I have reapplied the permalinks settings but the problem still exists.
5 : I have searched google and the WordPress forums for any similar problem to no avail. Maybe there is some other way to express or look at this problem instead of looking at it in terms of the 1000 and over postid number.

    I am using WordPress 2.5.1 .

Any suggestions? Please let me know if I am missing any detail or if I have overlooked anything. I would really appreciate any help on this. Thank you for reading and for any help on this. :)

    Sincerely,

    Bes

    Hi everyone.

It seems I was looking at the problem from the opposite perspective: the permalinks were the issue.

I changed the permalink to include more variables [non-numeric variables], and everything is fine.

Solution: Change your permanlink structure to be more dynamic if possible, as WordPress [or other things on your site] may use a lot of basic permalink structures for different things which may cause the 404 message, because they will be in direct conflict with the permalink structure that you choose in your WP admin panel.

Thanks again [the previous threads on permalinks and the Codex were a big help]. :)
