Posts show as full text not summary

Hi. Im using the twenty-eleven theme and I cant get my posts on my home page to show in summary format. They show the full text even though I have selected summary in the reading setting, and I have looked through other people answers to the same question and I have tried a few of the solutions out, but nothing is working still. Please help! Thank you !
