Support » Fixing WordPress » Posting opens endless tabs in firefox

I have been finding this happens about 50-75% of the time when I post in wordpress blogs I have created:

I will go into write, create a new post, and push “publish”. There will be the standard long delay as the post is added, and then all of a sudden firefox goes nuts and starts to open endless numbers of new tabs in my browser window. I have never let it go too long, but I have seen 50-75 tabs without issue.

If I close that browser window but others are open on other things, they too will start popping new tabs like mad when they get focus.

If I manage to get them all closed, a new browser window will pop open and it will attempt to open:

    /C:/DOCUME~1/Alex/LOCALS~1/Temp/post-3.php

I am not entirely sure what this is about.

Same issue on 1.5 and v2.0.1 – possibly a bug in firefox, I am just trying to figure out what would be calling to that sort of a page.

  • The delay after posting is very probably because pingomatic is in the Update Services box. Delete that and use another:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services
    pingoat is fast: http://pingoat.com/goat/RPC2

The other issue is – I think – a file association error and Firefox is trying to open the file to edit and then loops.
Check to see that .php files are opened by Firefox
On Windows > Control Panel > Folder Options > File types

I use PHP files all the time, the file type is correct without issues. It is only on wordpress that it happens, which is pretty strange for me.

I will make sure that pingomatic isn’t there, I hate slow servers! 🙂
