When I try to post an item from my blog to my Facebook group, the "posted item" is simply a URL. Is there any way to make WordPress posts Facebook-friendly, so that the text (and possibly the images?) appear in the "Posted Items."

I prefer the WordBook plugin. It makes entries in your feed and on your profile that show your latest posts. Friends can see these entries on their front pages too.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordbook/Alternatively, you can use Facebook's Notes to import from your blog on a regular basis:
http://www.facebook.com/editnotes.php?import
The downside of the Notes thing is that replies to the Notes remain on Facebook, not on your blog. -

Probably only for a personal profile. Never tried using them with a group. Groups can't have notes posts and such anyway, only links.
