    I am an rank beginer. Assume I'm stupid.

  2. I've set up a pop3 email address.

    I've sent email to the address and verified that it arrived by reading it.

    I've set WordPress to accept posts from this email address.

    All the settings in WordPress are the same as the settings in my email client which sends and receives the post.

    The post never shows up on my WordPress page.

    3. Is there something I've missed? Some chron setting?

    Are you running a cron job to enable WordPress to check this account?

    Have you read the Blogging By Email instructions?
