  • There are ways to exclude posts and categories from the index.php file, yes. What exactly are you trying to do?

I want to post directly to the archive of a catorgory and not have it show up on the index.php, but I don’t want to hide the category itself.

You are under the impression that the Archive is some “special” funcionality apart from the contents of the front page posts.

It is not. The archive simply pulls all the posts for a paritcular category. You don’t anything special for old posts to show up in archives and as such you cannot create a message to specifically show up in the archives.

Most people seldom enter the archives unless explicitely told to do so, so what’s your reasoning for having something show up only in the archives?

    Regards

A quick way to ensure that a new post is displayed in the archive view, but not the main index view, is to set the post’s timestamp in the past.

On the “Advanced Edit” screen, you can adjust the post’s time stamp before saving it. If you set it earlier than any of the posts currently on your front page, the new post will not be displayed on the front page.
