Post title converting to chinese characters

    Firstly, just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you spend supporting this plugin – it’s an awesome tool!

    I have found for the last couple of weeks that any posts that postie creates, the title of the post is somehow converted to Chinese characters. The same email that is posted to the WordPress auto poster email address is also sent to me, and it looks fine in GMail. I think this only started happening after a recent update (as I said, this problem has only been evident in the last couple of weeks).

    Have you come across this before and do you have any ideas on how to fix?

    By “looks fine in GMail”, I mean the subject is in English like I would expect.

    From another support request I have learned that PHP 5.4 changed one of the defaults. This may be the cause of what you are seeing. Also there have been several WordPress updates recently (but no Postie updates).
    There will be a Postie update as soon as I can verify everything is working will with WP 3.8.

    I just had this problem again (the first post created by postie since I updated to the newest version) so the update must not have helped me. I’ll note that in between the time where this stopped working, I didn’t upgrade php.

    Is there anything you suggest I look in to that might help diagnose the issue?

    I am reverting the change in 1.5.17 as it seemed to cause more harm than good.

    I wonder if it was the following change that caused my issues and I just hadn’t updated Postie in a while:

    1.5.15 (2013.07.01) – Simplified header decoding for non-ASCII languages

    That said, I am running PHP 5.4 as well.

    Also, apologies if I don’t respond that quickly, the wordpress followup notifications aren’t coming through for me.

    Bump

    This seems to happen intermittently. The last couple of weeks, the heading has been fine, however this week’s email again has the chineese characters 🙁

    Can you forward one of the messages causing the problem to postie-test@devzing.com as I can’t reproduce the issue.
