I just noticed that my post tags stopped working as of today. I updated to 3.2.1 when it was released. Not sure what to do. When I deactivated all plugins, clicking on a tag sent me to the home page. When all plugins were activated, clicking on a tag got me a 404 page. Help, please!

I just deactivated TheCartPress plugin and now clicking on a tag gets me to the home page. If TheCartPress is activated, clicking on a tag gets me the 404 error.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

ok, I just tried all three methods listed.
    1. Deactivating all plugins: the tags still didn't work. Clicking on the tags brought me to the home page
    2. That problem persisted with Twenty Eleven theme: clicking on a tag brought me to the home page
    3. Resetting the plugins folder didn't work, either.

So far, the only difference I could create was if TheCartPress was activated, clicking on a tag gave a 404 error. If TheCartPress was inactivated, clicking on a tag led to the homepage. Is that a clue to something I can do to fix this problem? I really need tags!

ok, I still have no idea why wordpress behaved that way. But a work-around I figured out was to put something in the tag base field in the permalink settings. Somehow that solved the problem.
