Since upgrading to WordPress 3.0 post preview no longer works. All I get is a 404 error, file not found when I click on any of the <preview> links in the Posts or Edit view.

Yes, I tried deactivating all the plugins. Same result.

Yes, I tried using the default Twenty-ten theme. Same result.

    This is really annoying!

Okay, just to be sure, I renamed the plugin directory. I still don't get previews of drafts and "pending."

Published posts preview just fine. However, if I "unpublish" a post to change its status to "draft" or "pending," I can no longer "preview" it.

By the way, my permalinks are the default -- not "pretty," since those stopped working too, once I updated to WordPress 3.0. But that's another issue ...

Does anybody have any suggestions of what else I can do? Is this an uncommon problem?

I'm experiencing the same issue since upgrading to 3.0. I am unable to preview prior to publishing a post. I am also not able to save a draft and return to it later -- my post panel does not show any drafts, nor does my dashboard.

OK, I noticed that my DashBar plugin wasn't working since the upgrade to 3.0. SO I deactivated it and it seems to have fixed the problem. I can now preview posts! Hope this helps.

Thanks haleynagy! I ended up going back to 2.9.2 for now, but I'll make a not of this for the inevitable future upgrade!

Same thing here. Anyone know of a workaround (other than downgrading)?

I had same problem. My .htaccess file was CHMODded to 644: disallowing WordPress to successfully edit it (that is good if permalinks is working!)

    How to Fix It!
To remedy this problem I simply changed the file attributes of .htaccess in my FTP program to 666. Then I went back to my permalinks page and chose the link structure I wanted and saved it.

    Now, it works!
Don't forget to set your .htaccess file back to 644 - otherwise, it's a security risk!

Hope this works for you too. English is not my mother language, so feel free to ask if something sounds "strange" to you. ;-)
