What a morning. First I see that my 1300+ word draft is gone and then when I try to troubleshoot it, I see suggestions re: plugin conflicts (although I run few and haven't added any) I go to check them and my plugin tab seems to be missing. Maybe my draft and plugin tab went out for breakfast and didn't tell me. Anybody have any idea what's going on? Thanks folks.

Are you the only admin? Perhaps your admin level has been dropped if you are not, meaning you no longer able to access those parts of the site.

I'm the only one with access to the site.

WordPress rarely deletes anything from the database, so the good news is your draft is likely still there *somewhere*

No idea what's wrong with the site though.

Good news. As usual, the problem is the guy at the keyboard. The clue was that there was no plugin tab. If you are hosted by wordpress.com there is no plugin tab. I moved to a self hosted site at dreamhost a while back but the original site at wordpress.com is still live and somehow I ended up there. Thanks for the support folks. ALWAYS appreciated. That ends our show for this evening. Please close the thread ; )

Wait how did you fix it? I'm having the same problem? I'm missing the plugin tab! The thing is I never had it! I have akismet though? Please help.

If you are on WordPress free site then you can't use plugins. If you have moved off the free site and are now using a different host, then maybe you have inadvertently logged on to your old free site.
