   This is mostly a fact finding mission. Or something like that.

   I published a post on Thursday of last week. I confirmed that all was well and shared it throughout my networks. I then left town for the weekend.

   When I return this morning I was going to share the content again but when I pulled up the post it was chopped. Meaning all that remained were the first seven words or so. Like some funky auto save things killed the content.

   All the feeds have been updated to the chopped version but if you look at anywhere I shared (Google+ or Facebook) where an excerpt is created you can see there was more.

   Has anyone experienced this mysterious behavior of post content getting deleted after it's already been published?

   It was a post that I made Thursday. I removed it because there were only 7 words left of the original post. :(

   I can't think of any reason or method to randomly chop a post. Excerpts going rogue?

   I'm not talking validation. I'm saying the post content was deleted from the database on just this one particular post.

   There have been problems where people can't post because of words in a post title or words in the post itself. That is as close as I have heard of.

   Can you repeat the behavior? It is hard to understand how a db entry could be changed after the fact. It was cut at 60 characters if that means anything. I searched, bing etc. didn't find any other problems like this. I suppose you have also.

   Sorry, not much help.

   What were the 8th, 9th and 10th words? As kmessinger said, it could be a server security configuration issue:

   I have had this happen before but I had revisions enabled that saved the day. I had disabled them for a bit this time around and so I couldn't use them to get the old content back.

   I can't really reproduce it because it's seemingly random. It isn't seemingly anything that I'm doing but perhaps a rogue code snippet, or plugin. Or I've been hacked. :) Not likely though.

   The excerpt block from social sites is, "Have you ever wanted to tweak what content WordPress served up on a particular portion of your website? Perhaps on your home page instead of the default 10 posts you only want to show 3 or maybe you w..."

   When I opened the post today it only showed, "Have you ever wanted to tweak what content WordPress served up on"

   It wouldn't be a saving issue because I published it and shared it a few times without issue. It was only later the same day (seemingly) that the content disappeared.

    Have you repaired your database recently? If not, that might help.

    Ha! I repaired it just this morning after this situation occurred. I wasn't sure if that could have an impact on something like this but I thought it could use it either way. :)
