hi, I configured my blog so that it should receive from some mailbox dashboard/setting/writing settings. I configured the same email address to in a pop client and it worked fine there but it is not receiving posts by email. I sent email to that mailbox and it is not added in posts automatically. Where is wrong? please help.

    Hi Abid Khan,

It sounds like you are trying to use the built in post via email in WordPress. I've found the Postie Plugin to be much easier to set up and use:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/postie/

If you would like a walk through on how to configure Postie, please see: How to post to WordPress via email with the Postie Plugin.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying. The same (postie) is giving me error as well. error message is like
POP3 connect: Error [110] [Connection timed out]

Even though my webmail is working fine with the same detail in gmail pop3 accounts option.

    Hi Abid Khan,

Sorry you're having trouble with that. If you are trying to connect via POP3, make sure you have Gmail set for POP3, per these instructions:

    http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13273

Also, while I was researching this, it looks like other people have had trouble using Gmail. You may want to try using a different email address. If your web host provides email as well, you could set up an email address for your domain name (e.g. admin@yourdomain.com).

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Abid,

I would recommend checking the following settings in Postie Options - Mailserver:

    Mail Protocol: POP3-SSL
Mail Server: Try changing this to pop.gmail.com (although both worked for me)
Mail Userid: Try changing this to your full email address (yourname@gmail.com)

If those settings do not work, check with your host and make sure they aren't restricting that port on your server.

    Hope this helps!

With this setting I got the following error message:

    Warning: imap_open() [function.imap-open]: Couldn't open stream {pop.gmail.com:995/service=pop3/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert} in /home/a7185199/public_html/wp-content/plugins/postie/postieIMAP.php on line 78

    Free Web Hosting
    Mail Connection Time Out

    Common Reasons:

    Server Down

    Network Issue

    Port/Protocol MisMatch

The Server said:Can't connect to gmail-pop.l.google.com,995: Connection timed out

I also sent email to the host for information about port 995. Can you please see the above error. it might help you sort me out of this problem. Thanks

    Hello Abid,

Researching this, I found information from the developer of the plugin. Looks like this error is commonly from your host blocking that port:

    http://forum.robfelty.com/topic/gmail-app-and-postie

    http://forum.robfelty.com/topic/timeout-accessing-popgmailcom-ssl995

You could also try switching everything over to IMAP-SSL to see if that port is open.

If that doesn't work, I would recommend simply creating an email account with your web host to use with Postie.

    Hope this helps!

    You're welcome Abid!

So glad to hear that it's working now. If you have time, can you tell us what finally worked for you and mark this topic as resolved?

    Thanks!

Sure, I tried imap but it was not working as well. I contacted the host and they replied that port 995 is restricted. They suggested to use port 110 with simple pop3 (not pop ssl) with mailbox on their server and that worked.
