• After an apparently painless update from 2.0.5 to 2.1, I’m encountering a minor problem.

It doesn’t seem to have impaired WordPress at all, but in all the admin pages, this appears at the bottom of each page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: spawn_pinger() in /home/.marcella/cubelodyte/cubelodyte.com/wp-admin/admin-footer.php on line 13

The funny thing is that when I examine /wp-admin/admin-footer.php, it only contains 10 lines and doesn’t explicitly call the spawn_pinger() function, so I can’t even try commenting it out to see what might happen without it.

Any advice is graciously appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have any plugins related to pings or ping delays or anything like that? Disable them.

None that I was aware of. I don’t use many plugins. The only ones that were active were Akismet, Contact Form II, Simple Popup Images, and the WP Backup plugin. I went ahead and deactivated every one but doing so had no effect. The error still appeared.
