• Hello,

My site is currently hosted on Tumblr. I am looking to transfer it to wordpress and recently purchased hosting from bluehost. I was wondering if it is possible to install WordPress in the root (or any subdirectory for that matter) while maintaining a custom domain name for my tumblr site.

So far, all I did was change the nameservers (on GoDaddy) to point towards my new hosting. (I didn’t even install wordpress yet). I noticed that this caused my custom tumblr domain to now point towards my default hosting page instead of towards the .tumblr.com website…Is it possible to work on setting up hosting/wordpress in the root directory while still forwarding the same domain to my tumblr site? Or do I need to set up wordpress on a seperate domain and then migrate it? I would like to avoid that extra step if possible…

    Thanks

  • To use two different hosts, you must use subdomains, not subdirectories. A subdomain is like blog.domain.com

So you can have your main site of domain.com pointed to one host, and a subdomain like blog.domain.com pointed to another host. You do this pointing by creating A Records or C Names in your DNS settings to point to each hosting company.

To setup one wordpress while a different one is live to the public, you will have to have a separate installation on a subdomain, then move it when you’re ready to go live.
