I'm thinking about switching to a new premium theme but i'd like to to see the new theme in action so I can do all my adjusting and tweaking without interrupting the site itself.

What is the most efficient way of doing this?

    Thanks in advance.

I usually setup a subdomain like test.domain.com with a fresh WordPress install and then import all the content from the main site. Then I mess around with it on the test WP install and once I have it the way I want it upload the new theme to the main site.

best way to do this, create subdomin demo and import your post, pages etc so you will not loose anything and if you are happy you can do this on live site.

Thank you for the replies. Ive uploaded a fresh copy to another folder on my server. Is there a walkthrough that shows step-by-step instructions on downloading all the content then uploading it to another copy of wordpress on another server?

Thanks esmi... i am curious if you can edit the theme you are test driving so you can get the necessary tweaks completed before switching.

Yep - pretty sure that you can. There's also http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/development-theme-test/

It doesn't appear as if theme test drive gives you the option to edit the theme, only view your site in that theme.

I'm going to check out development theme test and report back.

    Thanks again
