Possible layout error in 2013 theme (2 posts)

I've recently installed WordPress on my VPS, and after browsing through the themes, I've decided that I liked the default 2013 one the most.

My first problem was that it has almost zero side content, which made my site look desolate after a few centimeters down.

Then I noticed that it was possible to add a side menu, so I did. I've placed the recent posts, meta, and categories there, while keeping the archives and the search on the bottom menu.

However, I noticed that when I placed anything in the side menu - the "proudly powered by WordPress footer text would move to the left of it's containing div - while without a sidebar, it was centered on the entire page horizontally.

This is extremely annoying. Does anyone else have these issues? Is this a feature, or a bug?

On a side note - when do the new official themes arrive usually?

I still need some official input on this, but no, I don't think this was an error: I looked at the CSS and it seems to be intentional: http://yannbane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Screenshot-from-2013-10-28-073742.png (note: "text-align: left;").
