Possible Fix for "Already Installed" (4 posts)

I'm new here, but I cannot help but notice that there are over 2,000 posts over this problem of getting that error page when first installing, of... You have already Installed WordPress. The issue certainly does not seem to have been resolved.

I got the same message not 20 minutes ago when trying to install, and I had already read some of the posts on how to avoid it! Here is how I fixed it. With a little bit of help

Experimenting with changing the wp_ did nothing, nor did putting up a Test.php file.

Then it dawned on me. I was just clicking on the install file on my dreamweaver local panel and hitting F12. Doh.

So I came out of Dreamweaver and accessed my live site through Internet Explorer. Having got the live site up, I copied and pasted the subdirectory file name (blog/wp-admin/install.php) into the browser window, hit enter and, hey presto, it still didn't work... but I did get a sensible message that pointed the finger of blame at not being able to find the database.

One quick e-mail to Fasthosts Support, and an instant response from them and I was into the WordPress admin page. How? Fasthosts suggested I change the 'localhost' entry in the config file (you know the one ... "99% certain you won't have to change this... yes, that one) to my actual database 1P address.

    Simple.

Hope it works for anyone else having the same problem.

Now the fun really begins... trying to tweak the default theme!

    I'll be back
