Porting from Nucleus (2 posts)

After making an install of WP on a subdomain and trying it out, I got one of the primary features I wanted that wasn't in my current blog software (nucleus) ... the nicer archives. Sortable archives on a separate page from the main index is exactly what I was looking for. This alone is making me want to switch to WordPress.
Soooo ... since there isn't a wp t0 nucleus port, I will have to manually put in all old posts. I'm willing to do this but am unsure how to do it at the same time wanting to switch my main domain to WP. Any suggestions? If I slowly manually put in all old posts and comments, then back-up the sql database, delete the nucleus installation, re-install WP in the main root ... will I be able to put the old database back in from the backup and thus save my old posts? It's the only thing I can figure out to try.
