Portfolio Slider Not Working after WP Update

    This is a new customer for me. Someone customized a theme from ThemeZilla and I would guess this was the original template: http://demo.themezilla.com/?theme=garnish

    So, as much as I can discern, they upgraded their WordPress and now the area where they would have multiple images, nothing shows up. I created a test page and just linked to one image and that worked. But, as soon as I add more than one image, it kills it.

    The original editors created a file called them-portfoliometa.php and, here is that code;

    I am guessing it must be a jquery or javascript issue somewhere. They do not have any plugins installed so it looks like it was all coded…I am mostly a designer but with some guidance your input might work. Thanks for the help in advance.

    Have you gone through basic troubleshooting? Have you switched to 2011 to ensure that it’s not theme related? Have you disabled all plugins and then reactivated them one by one to ensure that it’s not a plugin conflict?

    Thanks for your reply Andrew….I do believe it is theme related and I have little control over the site so I cannot really have a testing area to switch themes. It has no, believe it or not, plugins activated. It looks like the theme started from here http://www.themezilla.com/themes/garnish/ and then was customized. But, it seems with the last update of WordPress things went bad. Do you have an idea how to revert back to an older version of WordPress on a live site as another troubleshooting mechanism?

    Well, the stock response is that as its a commercial theme, you should seek assistance from the theme vendors and it’s not supported here. They also might/should have released an update if the latest version of WordPress broke their theme.

    But since this got dropped in your lap. What ability do you have to switch to a testing area? Do you have a dev server you can migrate everything to? What about locally using xampp or mamp depending on your platform? It doesn’t sound like you’re in for an easy fix.

    I do hope the original designers/coders made a child theme..?

    Thanks again for the reply…..Yea, I think am jammed up. I am surfing their support forum but you are not allowed to see the responses unless you purchased the theme. And, the them was tweaked enough WITHOUT a child theme :(….

    I did indirectly email one of the posters via his portfolio link to see if he would share whatever advice he was getting as his site is still broken in the same way.

    I guess with given protocol, this thread is dead. I just didn’t know if people were aware of some jquery upgrade that through everyone off.

    Thanks for your input though…I appreciate it. I think I am going to have to rebuild all the pages after a create an original solution using standard WP plugins. Since I have all the images sized, I think I just need to figure out the Portfolio taxonomy where I can drop in a standard WordPress gallery.

    Yea, and I’m sure you’ll do this, but just be straight up with your client, give them an honest bid. If they want to go somewhere else because their old web devs just hacked through stuff and gave them low hourlies, so be it, but at least you still know you’re doing it the right way for the right reasons.
