[resolved] Popularity Contest and 2.8.4 - Catchable Fatal Error (4 posts)

I really like Popularity Contest, and it was working, but now I'm getting a Catchable Fatal Error and I wondered if anyone else was experiencing the same thing, and if anyone has found a way to fix it? I posted on the the author's site, and my comment was deleted with no answer, so I'm here now, hoping one of you can help!

When I go to Popularity Contest Options under Settings, and press the 'Reset Comments/Trackback/Pingback Counts' button I get this error... "Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in /home/content/49/4741249/html/wp-content/plugins/popularity-contest/popularity-contest.php on line 539"

I've done two things recently that may have impacted it - I'm not sure if they do or not, but I'm mentioning both here, just in case they do. First, I upgraded to WordPress 2.8.4 and second, I imported over 200 posts from Blogger.

I've tried deleting and then reinstalling Popularity Contest. I've tried disabling all my other plugins. I've tried switching back to the default theme. I just can't figure it out? Am I really the only one having this problem?

    Anyone have any ideas?

If someone can just give me a hint of where to look next, I'd be really grateful!

This is discussed on the plugin author's site at http://alexking.org/blog/2009/06/25/popularity-contest-20-beta-2

The fix is to grab the latest revision of the plugin from the SVN at http://svn.wp-plugins.org/popularity-contest/trunk/

Right click on popularity-contest.php, save as, then upload it overwriting the file of the same name you already have.

I was having this problem for the longest time as well, even before upgrading to 2.8.4. This fixed it. I just wish he would make it an actual update to the plugin, rather than us having to get it from the SVN.

Thanks LancerSykera! I checked this thread for a week or so, but then let it go when no one responded - so I didn't know you'd come along with an answer a month later - sorry!

But the good news is that I did eventually get it to work, and hopefully your solution helped others with the same problem to do the same!
